My New Book: Palestine Bleeds For You, and more

Dear Reader,

“In a world of automata, being human is revolutionary.”

It is a formidable feeling to finally see the first layout of my long-awaited second book. Reading it brought back the years of blood and tears with which it was written. “The book I never wanted to write.”

“We all must understand Gaza to survive in this new world. We cannot go back to the same blinded worldview. None of us is safe in a world where the same elements that have fomented and assisted the genocide continue to run amok. In an authentic Palestinian voice, this book sketches the workings of the global machinery of oppression, revealing the centrality of Palestine’s liberation to decolonization, social justice, and environmental justice struggles around the world. This book dares to ask the tough questions humanity needs to tackle, in order to preserve its humanity.”

Palestine Bleeds For You will be released soon. I am grateful to authors Greta Berlin, Tony Hanania, and Rebecca Ruth Gould for providing endorsements. If you’re interested in reviewing it, please drop me a note.

Sunday March 1, be on the lookout for a new short story, to be published on Scene48.org. ‘Learning Hebrew’ is my shortest short story to date, with just under 800 words. I am proud it will be published in Haifa.

Below, you’ll find two essays, ‘Epstein Academy’ and the photographic ‘Providence, O! Providence,’ as well as a poem on social media censorship, ‘I Do Not Want To See This.’ After gathering evidence that LinkedIn and Medium have been shadowbanning my posts such that few see them, I am now trying other social media sites. Find me on Upscrolled: @RamseyHanhan

Plans for March include the launch of my new Substack, featuring new content unrelated to my earlier books. To be the first to hear, follow me now on Substack: @ramseyhanhan

Tomorrow Thursday, if you’re in Edinburgh, I’ll be giving a talk at the University of Edinburgh (remotely) on “Mental Decolonisation and Reclaiming the Palestinian Voice”, at a workshop on ‘Frontiers of Repression, Resistance and Solidarity in a Time of Genocide.’

Finally, if you’re wondering what I think of the “Board of Peace”: Trump’s perversion of the word ‘Peace’ is remarkable for what it’s missing, and that’s any mention of Palestinian self-determination, rights, or sovereignty over our own land. The experts I follow concur that it’s a plot to corporatize the reconstruction of Gaza, rob it of its resource wealth, and confine the Palestinian population into a small prison camp that’s highly surveilled, using them for exploited labor at luxury resorts. The “technocratic committee” has no authority to do anything but follow orders.

Applying the words of poet Lisa Suhair Majaj, who is kind enough to let me borrow them for an epigraph for Palestine Bleeds

“No is steadfast. It knows what it’s like
to have nothing in its hands but dignity.”

With love,
Ramsey Hanhan

Dear Reader, While the world fights, I write. I won’t bore you with my assessment of the war. You can read it here, Iran War Balance Sheet. Instead, this newsletter is dedicated to celebrating the women of Palestine and the Palestine movement, starting with a short story honoring my mother published in Scene48. Inaugurating a series of posts featuring books by Palestinian women authors, you get a review of Lisa Suhair Majaj’s Geography of Light. I also review Abby Martin’s movie Earth’s...

Dear Reader, A new year accentuates the uncertainty we live. The future is wide open. We do our best, but it never ceases to surprise. I concluded 2025 in mourning. My publisher, Marc Estrin of Fomite Press, passed away in August. Amid the train of lives lost that year, and the flurry of events surrounding the non-ceasefire, my grief for this personal loss was deferred. Marc Estrin, co-founder of Fomite press, novelist, cellist, puppeteer at Bread and Puppet Theater, and activist in...

Dear Reader, It is a blessing to have a voice at times like these. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I recognize, with deep gratitude, all those who hear and enable this voice, including you, dear readers. You may have noticed my retreat from social media. I am now on chapter 25 of my romantic novel, which has morphed into a dystopian sci-fi set in the digital age. Thankfully, I have also participated in many Palestine-related events, the recordings and photos from some of which I share below....
